Our goal is to make films and series accessible to audiences in other language areas while ensuring the best possible quality – in the service of the work, the filmmakers and the viewers.
This is where we publish standards for the various areas of audiovisual translation, based on our members' many years of experience as well as common practices in the industry.
As in all countries with a subtitling tradition, in Germany there are tried, tested and long-established local subtitling standards.
Based on these existing conventions and the many years of experience of numerous subtitlers, the AVÜ has written guidelines that ensure high-quality subtitles.
The members of AVÜ e.V. are committed to subtitling in accordance with the following quality standards wherever possible:
Quality standards for original-version film subtitles (German)
SDH quality standards (German)
